It is hardly a secret that your company needs a website. Even startups need a web presence from the word go. The current pandemic has increased the importance of having a website as companies fight to make sure that they remain in the minds of their customers.

When it comes to web design, you have a couple of choices: you can opt for a website builder or seek out a web designer in Essex to build your online presence. With so many companies offering the first option, is this something that you should be considering?

The draw of website builders

Undoubtedly, we’ve all seen the adverts. The ones that promise you a cheap website that you can do yourself and have up for the world to see in a matter of minutes. The appeal is an obvious one, but when you’ve been drawn in by the low-cost offer and signed up, what next?

When the first 6 months or so have passed, you suddenly find yourself paying a much higher monthly fee for a pretty bog-standard website. One that you have probably quickly learned isn’t quite as easy to use as you thought it would be. Yes, you can drag and drop and add text to templates, but can you really attain your vision and what you initially set out to achieve?

Website builder limitations

When you go beyond the clever marketing, what are you actually getting for your money? Website builders do have their place, and yes, they can allow you to at least give your business an online presence, but what were your aims to start with?

Were you looking to stand out from the crowd and make your website instantly recognisable? This isn’t something that a website builder will allow you to achieve: yes, there are plenty of templates available, but they are just that, templates. Your website will be lacking originality, and you are likely to be making your company look just like numerous others.

Another factor to consider is the rising cost. What starts at £0 or £1 a month will suddenly increase 10-fold, and that’s just the start. Do you want to start selling from your website and have eCommerce capabilities? That will be an extra few pounds a month. How about your company email address? That will cost you a little more too. Now, there is nothing wrong in charging for these add-ons, but people need to be aware that the initial price that seems cheap and attractive won’t necessarily remain so.

The website builder alternative

If you’ve managed to create your ideal website using a website builder, then that’s great, but if you’re at the stage of realising that it’s not quite as easy as you expected it to be, it could be worth considering a web design company.

What you get from an expert in web design is the chance to have your website designed from scratch: something unique which has been created for your company and your company alone, a completely bespoke design.

Whether you’re looking for a website to present basic information, somewhere to keep your customers up to date with your blog, or if you’re seeking a full eCommerce solution, your company will be branded, both uniquely and memorably.
